What happens when an individual passes away?  Many courses and natural processes form cyclical structures.  If an individuals life were based upon these assumptions of cyclical and never ending, individuals may experience a new life through another individual, animal or other living object.  Different individuals have differing perspectives on what happens after death based on religious structures or other influences.  I personally, had never breached the topic until the death of my grandmother passed away.

A day after my grandmother passed away a cardinal sat in the tree outside of my home for days.  To other individuals this may have gone unnoticed but my grandmother my whole family felt a presence of my grandmother in this little cardinal because of my grandmothers passion for birds.  This was the inspiration for the first piece of this series, a simple presence.  We all felt a sense of warmth from this simple bird that feel into our hands (metaphorically).  I then wondered what other people might come back as if reincarnation is true.

I asked a handful of individuals what they thought they might come back as if he/she had died and were reincarnated.  I took these individuals answers and portrayed them in a way that resembled the individuals I was referring too.  For instance, my brother said he would come back as a red panda so I painted the animal sort of goofy and appearing as if it were up to no good.  I think this is a pretty accurate description of my brother.  The whole series of works is done in this manner.
